Thailand eVisa & Travel Information (2025)

Introduction: Thailand is a global tourism hub with Bangkok (BKK/DMK), Phuket (HKT) and Chiang Mai (CNX) as key gateways. Entry options include visa-exempt

Visa News

Since 27 September 2021, the Royal Thai Embassy has been implementing a "Stickerless" E-Visa service. Consequently, it is no longer required to submit passports or other supporting documents by mail to the Embassy.

U.S. citizens, as well as travelers from many other countries, can enter Thailand without a visa for up to 60 days under the Visa Exemption rule for tourism purposes and short business trips, provided they meet certain conditions.

Thailand New Visa Measures (Effective 15 July 2024)

TDAC

Starting 1 May 2025, all non-Thai nationals entering Thailand by air, land, or sea must complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online within 3 days prior to arrival.

This form is not a visa, but an immigration requirement. All travelers—regardless of visa type, including those entering under the Visa Exemption scheme—must complete the TDAC.

All existing visa requirements and the Visa Exemption scheme remain unchanged while this form is in effect.

  1. All passengers must complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card.
  2. If the alien stays in the Kingdom longer than 90 days, he/she must notify in writing the nearest Immigration Officer, concerning place of stay, as soon as possible upon expiration of 90 days. And required to do so every 90 days.
  3. Aliens are not allowed to work unless they are granted Work Permit.
  4. Foreigners are required to submit their arrival card information 3 days in advance of their arrival date in Thailand.

VoA is available to selected nationalities (commonly 15–30 days) on payment of a fee; an MFA e-Visa is available to others. Proof of onward travel, accommodation and funds may be required. Extensions can be requested at Immigration offices.

  3. Document indicating current location
  4. Travel booking confirmation
  5. Proof of accommodation in Thailand (e.g., accommodation bookings, invitation letters from family/friends in Thailand)
  6. Financial evidence: an amount of no less than 20,000 THB (e.g., bank statements for the last three months, sponsorship letter)

Visa Business

The Non-Immigrant “B” visa requires an invitation, corporate documents and proof of funds; employment also requires a Work Permit. Single and multiple-entry visas may be extended in-country when criteria are met.

Visa Student

The Non-Immigrant “ED” visa is issued on the basis of acceptance/enrolment, tuition and financial means. Stays are extended per academic schedule and 90-day address reporting to Immigration is required.

Visa Retirement/Long-stay

Retirement categories include O-A (age 50+) and O-X (multi-year, higher thresholds). Applicants must meet financial requirements (e.g., THB 800,000 on deposit or THB 65,000 monthly income for O-A), and present police, medical and health insurance documents.

Visa Transit

Airside transit is visa-free. If you must enter Thailand between flights, apply for a Transit visa if your nationality is not visa-exempt.

e-Arrival/Arrival Card

The TM6 arrival card requirement has changed over time; check the current policy before travel.

Eligibility

Visa-exempt includes most EU states, UK, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and others. VoA covers designated countries such as China and India.

Visa Information

A Thai visa is an official document issued by the Thai government that allows a foreign national to enter, stay, and/or travel within Thailand for a specific period of time. The type of visa required depends on the purpose of the visit.

Check your visa requirements at: www.thaievisa.go.th

The Embassy cannot issue visas for applicants already inside Thailand.

Processing Time

E-visa processing may take longer than the usual 15 business days.

If additional documents are requested, the updated status will appear within 3–5 business days.

Apply at least 30 days before departure and no more than 90 days prior.

Visa Fee

Visa fees depend on the visa category. All fees are non-refundable.

Common Mistakes When Filling Visa Application

  1. Incorrect name format — must match passport exactly.
  2. Using digit “0” instead of letter “O” — autofill errors may cause rejection.
  3. Incorrect passport expiration date — always double-check.
